The short answer
If you want a metal pen that takes your Pilot G2 refill, the full-size Original Grafton ($54) takes a full-size G2 natively. It is machined from 6061-T6 aerospace-grade aluminum, weighs 0.9 oz, and has a clip bolted on with two hex screws.

The pens, one by one
The Original Grafton Pen
You already know the ink you like. The Grafton gives it a pen worth keeping: 6061-T6 aerospace-grade aluminum, 11mm across with a deep machined groove, 0.9 oz in the hand. The clip is held by two hex-head screws, not snapped on.
It ships with our 0.7mm black Metal Gel. Drop in a full-size Pilot G2 and it fits as is. Parker Gel, Parker Ballpoint, Fisher Space Pen and Monteverde fit too, and swapping the spacer and spring lets it take longer refills.

Where it falls short: at 5.7 inches it is a full-size pen, not a pocket mini. If you want something shorter, the Mini and Mini Twist are shorter, but neither takes a G2. Our own Metal Gels are water-based and don't like a year in a dry drawer; a ballpoint refill is the better choice for long storage.
Super Matte Grafton Pen
The same 145mm, 0.9 oz pen with the same native G2 fit, finished in Super Matte: a velvety, non-reflective surface over the groove grip. It comes in New Oxblood, OD Green, Black, Midnight, Amber and Military, colors made only in this finish. Who it's for: the man who wants the pen to carry without flash. Where it falls short: it costs $10 more than the Original for the finish alone.

Grafton Mini and Mini Twist: not for G2
The Mini (4.9 in, 0.8 oz, click) and the Mini Twist (5.1 in, 1 oz, twist) are the compact Graftons. A Pilot G2 does not fit either one. The Mini runs its own Mini Click Metal Gels, Fisher Space Pen and Rite in the Rain. The Mini Twist takes Parker, Fisher, Monteverde and our Metal Gels. If the G2 is the point, buy the full size.
How to choose a pen for your G2 refill
Check full size. The full-size Graftons take a full-size Pilot G2 natively. The compact ones don't.
Decide on weight. At 0.9 oz the Grafton has the weight of a tool in your hand. Owners say the balance is what they notice first.
Look at the clip. A clip that is bolted on with screws stays put on a shirt pocket or a notebook spine.
Keep a backup ink. Gel writes smoother; a 1.0mm ballpoint handles dry air, flights and long storage. The Grafton takes both, swapped in ten seconds with no tools.
No expiry. No registration. No fine print. If it ever fails, tell us and we'll fix it or replace it, for as long as you own it.

Does the Grafton pen take Pilot G2 refills?
Yes. The full-size Original Grafton ($54) and the Super Matte Grafton Pen ($64) take a full-size Pilot G2 refill natively. Every Grafton ships with a 0.7mm black Everyman Metal Gel, so you can write with that or switch to your G2.
Which Grafton pens do not fit a G2 refill?
The Grafton Mini and the Grafton Mini Twist. The Mini uses its own Mini Click Metal Gels, Fisher Space Pen and Rite in the Rain refills. The Mini Twist takes Parker Gel, Parker Ballpoint, Fisher Space Pen, Monteverde Ballpoint and Everyman Metal Gels; its barrel is narrower than the full size, so a G2 won't fit.
What other refills fit the full-size Grafton?
Pilot G2, Parker Gel, Parker Ballpoint, Fisher Space Pen, Monteverde Ballpoint, and Everyman Metal Gels in 0.5mm and 0.7mm. Swap the spacer and spring and it takes longer refills too.
What refill comes in the Grafton?
A 0.7mm black Everyman Metal Gel with copper tubing and a stainless steel tip. Spare Metal Gels are $11 for three, in black or blue, 0.5mm or 0.7mm, with a spacer and spring included.
Should I use a gel or a ballpoint refill?
Our Metal Gels are water-based, which is why they write the way they do and why they don't like sitting in a dry drawer for a year. If you fly often, work outdoors or live somewhere arid, add a 1.0mm ballpoint refill and swap it in: ten seconds, no tools. Same pen, different ink.
