Cards sit inside an aerospace-grade aluminum frame instead of leather pockets, so the plate takes the pressure and your cards don't bend. A pull tab fans the stack out in one motion. An elastic strap on the back holds folded bills flat. It weighs 1.75 oz and carries in the front pocket.
Who it's for: the man retiring a thick back-pocket wallet who wants the next one to be the last. It is designed by a team of U.S. military veterans and engineers.

Where it falls short: bills fold in half and sit under the back strap, so cash is slower to reach than in a billfold. The frame is snug for the first few days, and moving from the back pocket to the front takes getting used to. Loaded to 25 cards it is about half an inch thick.

Holden Card Wallet
Our own wallet, cut from 2mm full-grain leather, 100% USA cowhide, with six pockets at 2.88 by 4.25 inches and 1.8 oz. The leather builds its own patina, and the stitching comes in colors that match the Grafton pens. Who it's for: the man who wants a slim wallet that is all leather, no metal. Where it falls short: it is larger than a PROOF in both directions, it has no metal frame protecting the cards, and RFID blocking comes only on the Oxblood version ($110).

How to choose a small wallet
Count your cards first. If you carry more than six, a frame wallet like PROOF holds up to 25 without bulging. If you carry six or fewer, the Holden's six pockets are enough.
Decide where it rides. A front-pocket wallet should be small and have no sharp corners to catch. PROOF's 3.75 by 2.2 inch plate has rounded corners for exactly this.
