Which PROOF wallet should you buy? All fifteen compared
Written by the team at Everyman. We carry fifteen PROOF wallets and didn't make any of them, so there's no house favorite to protect here. This is about fit: which one suits the way you dress and carry, and where each one falls short.
The short answer
Every PROOF wallet we carry is the same wallet underneath: the same frame, up to 25 cards and 20 folded bills, RFID-blocking, 3.75 by 2.25 inches. You're choosing the skin, the plate color and the price. Start with The Founder, $125, in distressed bomber leather. It's the PROOF our customers buy most, by a wide margin. Move off it for one of four reasons:
- You don't want leather: The Oracle, $125. Woven carbon fiber, no leather anywhere on it.
- You want it to look like gear: The Operator, $115. Olive drab ballistic nylon. The Survivor ($110, camo) and the Monolith ($125, black) are the same idea.
- You want classic brown: The Leatherneck, $145. Brown top-grain leather on a navy blue plate, gold bolts included.
- You want real weight: The Obsidian, $200. A brushed brass plate at 3.3 oz, almost twice the others.
Every one carries PROOF's guarantee: damage it, or even lose it, and it's replaced for free. Free US shipping.

Read the spec sheets side by side and they repeat. Each PROOF is 3.75 inches tall and 2.25 inches wide, and about half an inch thick depending on how many cards you load. The cards sit inside the metal frame, not in leather pockets, so the plate takes the pressure and the card edges don't bend. A tab on the front fans the whole stack out in one pull. An elastic strap on the back holds up to 20 folded bills flat against the plate. RFID-blocking material is built in, and every wallet comes with PROOF's stainless steel multi-tool, which fits the bolts.
Fourteen of the fifteen have an aerospace-grade aluminum frame and weigh 49.5 g, or 1.75 oz. The Obsidian is the exception: its frame is brass, and it weighs 93 g.
So the choice comes down to three things: what the outside is made of, what color the plate is, and what you want to spend.

Prices and specs come from each product page on everyman.co. All fifteen hold up to 25 cards and 20 folded bills. Most of these wallets are new to our store, so their pages have few or no reviews yet; we show the count as it stands. Swipe the table sideways on a phone.
The Founder: the one to start with
The Founder is wrapped in bomber top-grain leather tanned warm and slightly distressed from the day it arrives. The plate is dark gunmetal, and the corners are rounded so it slides in and out of a front pocket without catching. It's the PROOF our customers choose most often, and it's the one we'd hand a man who has carried the same thick bifold for twenty years.
That man is who PROOF owners tend to be. They write about retiring a fat back-pocket wallet, about cards that no longer spill out, and about not wanting to shop for a wallet again.
"Will carry Proof for the rest of my life."PROOF owner
"My cards don't go flying out when you open it like my previous wallet."PROOF owner
"Love it. Well made, wish I had gotten this a long time ago."PROOF owner
"Very well made. Holds cash and cards very securely, unlike the 'trigger' style wallets."PROOF owner
Where it falls short. The distressed look is there from day one; if you want leather that looks crisp and even, the Executive or the Apex will suit you better. Like every PROOF, it's snug at first and takes some getting used to, especially if you're moving it from the back pocket to the front. Bills have to be folded to fit under the strap. And on our own site it has one review so far, so most of what you'll read about it comes from PROOF owners elsewhere.
The Oracle: no leather at all
Same frame, same capacity, same $125 as the Founder. The difference is the wrap: woven black carbon fiber where the others have leather or nylon. Black on dark gunmetal, it's the most uniform-looking wallet in the line.
It suits the man who doesn't want to think about leather at all, and the man whose phone, watch and knife are already black and technical. It's one of our best-selling PROOF wallets.
Where it falls short. It reads technical. With a suit and good shoes, some men will want leather. And if you like the smell and feel of leather, this isn't that wallet.
The Operator: the one that looks like gear
Olive drab ballistic nylon with black full-grain leather, on a satin gunmetal plate. At $115 it's one of the two least expensive PROOF wallets we carry, and it looks like it came out of a field bag, because that's the idea.
Two others share the build. The Survivor, $110, swaps the olive for camo. The Monolith, $125, goes all black on a dark gunmetal plate, which makes it the easiest of the three to carry with a jacket and tie.
"High speed low drag great piece of gear, as we say in the Corps." PROOF owner
Where it falls short. Nylon is nylon. It looks the part, but it won't pass for a dress wallet, and the camo Survivor even less so. If you want one wallet for the job site and the dinner table, take the Monolith or a leather model.
Brown leather: the Leatherneck, the Executive and the Legacy
If the Founder's distressed bomber isn't you, there are three cleaner browns.
The Executive, $125, is tobacco top-grain leather on a dark gunmetal plate. Same price as the Founder, cleaner-looking and lighter in color. This is the one in the photo.
The Leatherneck, $145, is classic brown top-grain leather on a navy blue plate, and it ships with PROOF's Gold Bolt Upgrade already fitted. It's one of our best-selling PROOF wallets.
The Legacy, $147, is burnished oak full-grain leather on a satin gunmetal plate.
Where they fall short. You're paying $20 more for the Leatherneck's navy plate and gold bolts, and $22 more for the Legacy's full-grain leather, over a wallet that carries exactly the same. If brown is all you're after, the Executive gets you there for $125.
The Obsidian, and the rest of the top shelf
The Obsidian, $200, is the only PROOF here with a brass frame. Black full-grain leather on a brushed brass plate, 93 g, or 3.3 oz. You notice the weight when you pick it up, and the brass face stands apart from everything else in the line.
Four more sit at $175, all in full-grain leather with a different plate: the Apex in matte black on satin gunmetal, and three in midnight blue. The Patriot pairs it with satin gunmetal, the Nautilus with navy blue and a Nickel Bolt Upgrade, the Admiral with antique bronze.
At the top is the Everglade, $295, in black full-grain crocodile leather. The leather comes from different areas of the skin, so no two look the same.
Where they fall short. The Obsidian is almost twice the weight of every other PROOF, and in a front pocket that's the point or the problem. None of these hold a single card more than the $110 Survivor. You're paying for leather and finish, which is a fine reason, as long as you know that's what it is.
If you'd rather have leather pockets: the Holden
Some men try a metal-frame wallet and miss leather against leather. For them there's our own Holden Card Wallet, $90: 2 mm full-grain leather, six pockets, 2.88 by 4.25 inches, 1.8 oz. It's rated 4.85 from 160 reviews on our site, and it comes in black, natural and tan with a choice of stitching.
"This wallet will last you a lifetime and there's no other wallet out there with this kind of design and dimensions. It's the perfect wallet." Davidson, Holden owner
Where it falls short. There's no fan-out tab and no metal frame. Cards come out of six separate pockets, one at a time, and its spec sheet doesn't give a card count to compare with PROOF's 25. If quick access to a full stack matters most, stay with a PROOF.
How to choose, in four questions
How do you dress most days? Suit or office: the Founder, the Executive, or one of the full-grain $175 wallets. Job site, truck or field: the Operator, the Survivor or the Monolith. Somewhere in between: the Founder, which is why it's the default.
Leather or not? If not, the Oracle in carbon fiber, or one of the nylon models, which still have a little black leather on them.
Light or heavy? Fourteen of them weigh 1.75 oz. The Obsidian weighs 3.3. Spending more gets you leather and finish, not capacity.
Buying it for someone else? The Founder if you don't know his taste. The Leatherneck if he likes brown and a little detail. The Obsidian if you want it to feel like a present the moment he picks it up.
"If you damage, or even lose your wallet, we replace it for free." It comes with every PROOF wallet bought here, and we stand behind it too.
The pen that goes with it. Add a Brass Grafton Mini Twist to any PROOF or Holden wallet order and it's $49 instead of $84, taken off automatically in your cart. It's our own pen: 1.8 oz of solid brushed brass, 130 mm, twist to write, rated 4.9 from 325 reviews. If it ever fails, we fix it or replace it.
"Fantastic weight and feel. It has heft which helps make writing a breeze. The look of the brass is classic." Jake B., Brass Grafton owner
